How Crew works

A Mac app for your work, a helper in the background, and the AI accounts you choose.

1 · The Mac app

Crew is where you talk with your Chief of Staff and read the conversation.

Your projects, conversations and agent data stay on your Mac; we do not collect them into Crew's website or membership service.

2 · The helper on your Mac

Crew’s helper runs in the background and keeps your work records on this Mac. You can turn it off in Crew’s Settings.

A coming release will move conversations into that local helper and bring the app and helper together through one update.

How updates will arrive

The planned update card lets you download and install a new version with one click. Crew checks the update before installing it, then quits and opens again.

When Crew checks for an update, the update server sees your IP address and which version of Crew you have. We use this only to deliver updates.

3 · Your own AI accounts

Use your own Claude API key, your Claude subscription in Crew’s terminal, or Codex on your own ChatGPT sign-in. Crew provides no AI capacity. Your AI costs are separate from the Crew price.

Your AI coding tools may send prompts and project content to the providers you choose, under their own terms and privacy policies.
