Ship a version

Shipping a version is built, but Crew on this Mac doesn't switch it on in this version yet; until it does, Crew says Shipping isn't turned on yet. It lives on the Versions page, which is on in the app (see Edit your plan).

When it's on, a version of your project that Crew can ship carries one quiet link, such as Ship 0.3.0. It opens a sheet showing exactly what one click will do.

What the sheet shows

• Ships N items: the version's items that are Merged, Shipped or On your Mac.
• N items move on: everything else in the version, and where each one goes: the next open version, or Ideas.
• The release notes: the version's note, then one line per item, in your own words when the item has them.
• The tag and the commit it points at, and the deploy step it will run (Runs …), or No deploy step.

Return doesn't ship: press Ship, or Cancel.

What happens next

Crew tags that commit and runs the project's deploy step. The link reads Shipping…, then Shipped with the tag. The version closes, its items count as shipped, and the rest move on.

If something fails, the link reads Ship failed — try again. The version stays open and nothing moves.

Limits

• It ships exactly what you saw. If the version changed after the sheet opened, Crew says The version changed — review again and shows the new list.
• Only the owner ships, and only from your own click on this Mac, not through Screen Sharing. With VoiceOver, Crew asks for Touch ID or your password first.
• One version per project ships at a time. Ship stays off while nothing in the version is merged.
• A project ships only once its ship settings are set up on the machine that runs Crew on this Mac. Until then the sheet says This project isn't set up to ship yet.
• Crew's own project ships through its own pipeline, not from here.

Turn it on

Whether Ship a version is on shows in Settings › Features. If that pane lists it, you can turn it on there; it needs Plan status on first, and both apply when Crew on this Mac next restarts. If the pane says Crew on this Mac doesn’t list its features yet, it isn't switched on in your version.
