Brief replies

A long reply can show a shorter view after it finishes. While the reply is arriving, you see it in full. Replies of 25 lines or fewer stay in full, as do replies where shortening would hide fewer than five lines.

The Brief uses the reply’s own words, in their original order. It keeps the opening block, headings and the first line of each bullet. It does not write a new summary.

What stays visible

In prose, the Brief keeps “Needs you”, questions ending in a question mark, errors and warnings, and lines containing numbers, dates, amounts or versions. A table containing one of those lines stays whole. Fenced code blocks after the opening block are available in the full reply.

Show the whole reply

Choose Show everything (N lines) under a Brief. That switches replies in this conversation to their full view. The Verbose transcript view (⌃O cycles the view) also keeps replies in full. Copy copies the complete reply, even when you are looking at its Brief.

See the work behind the answer

Tool activity gathers into one expandable work line. While work is running, the line shows the current activity in a fixed-height space. Afterward, it summarizes the work, such as files read, commands run or files edited. Open the line to see its steps.
